Privacy Policy — Salah Gate

Last updated: 2026-10-12 (version 2.0.0)

Salah Gate ("the app") shows prayer times, sends local prayer reminders, can silence your phone's ringer at prayer time on Android, and offers an optional premium feature, Prayer Lock. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. In short: the app keeps your data on your device. The only network service it uses is purchase validation through RevenueCat, described below.

Who we are

Salah Gate is developed by Cressu OÜ (Estonia). Contact: privacy@cressu.com

What the app does NOT do

Data the app handles

Data Why Where it lives Leaves the device?
Location (only if you tap "Use my GPS location" in Settings) To compute prayer times for where you are, and to show the Qibla direction Coordinates and the chosen city are saved in local app storage No
Device compass / magnetometer Qibla compass screen Read live on the device; not stored No
Settings (city, method, notification and theme preferences) To remember your choices Local app storage No
Notification scheduling data To schedule prayer reminders Scheduled by the operating system on your device No
Prayer Lock settings and list of locked apps To lock the apps you choose during prayer windows Local app storage (Android) or Apple Screen Time (iOS) No
Purchase and subscription status To unlock premium features Store and RevenueCat See "Purchases"

The app does not collect your name, email address, contacts, photos, messages, or browsing data.

Location

Location is requested only when you choose GPS in Settings. It is used on-device to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. It is not sent to any server. You can revoke location permission at any time in your phone's settings and still use a preset city.

Notifications

Prayer reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. No push server is used. On iOS the app requests background refresh so that the day's times can roll over; no data is uploaded.

Prayer Lock (premium)

Prayer Lock temporarily locks apps you choose around prayer times. It works differently on each platform, and in neither case does any information leave your device.

iOS (Apple Screen Time / FamilyControls). The app uses Apple's Screen Time APIs. When you pick apps to lock, Apple returns opaque tokens: the app never sees which apps you selected or their names. The selection stays on your device and is handled by the operating system.

Android (Accessibility Service). The app uses an Accessibility Service only to detect the package name of the app that comes to the foreground, so it can show the lock screen when that app is one you chose to lock. It does not read screen content, text on screen, passwords, or anything you type. The list of locked apps is stored locally on your device. You can disable the Accessibility Service at any time in Android settings; Prayer Lock will then stop working.

Purchases

Premium subscriptions are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment card or Apple/Google account details; the stores' own privacy policies apply to that processing.

We use RevenueCat (revenuecat.com) to validate purchases and manage your premium entitlement. RevenueCat receives:

No name or email address is sent. See the RevenueCat privacy policy. Apple's and Google's policies are available on their websites.

Android: Do Not Disturb access (auto-silence)

If you enable "Auto-silence at prayer", the app asks for Do Not Disturb access (ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY) and changes the ringer to vibrate or silent at prayer time, then restores it after the configured delay. The app does not read your notifications or other apps' content. You can turn this feature off at any time.

Exact alarms

The app uses exact alarms (SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM) so that prayer notifications and the auto-silence action fire at the correct minute. You can revoke this in system settings; notifications may then arrive a few minutes late.

Children

The app does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

Data retention and deletion

App data stays on your device. Uninstalling the app removes it. "Reset to defaults" in Settings clears your custom settings. For purchase records held by RevenueCat, contact privacy@cressu.com and we will request deletion of the anonymous ID's data.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with a new "Last updated" date and noted in the release notes.
